1-st JWG Meeting on Nuclear Infrastructure in Abuja.

First Meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Nuclear Infrastructure was held in Abuja, Nigeria on 9-13, March, 2015. The opening remarks were done by Chairman of Nuclear Energy Commission of Nigeria Mr. Osaisai and Head of the ROSATOM Delegation Mr. Busurin (Project Office for Nuclear Infrastructure Development, JSC “Concern Rosenergoatom”). The principal objective of the meeting was to identify the list of priority actions to be included in the joint working plan on nuclear infrastructure developmnet.  The Meeting was organized as an important landmark in preparation for the Joint Coordination Committee meeting that is going to be held in the last decade of March in Moscow to prove the action plan and allocate necessary resources.  From ROSATOM-CICE&T Prof. V.Artisyuk participated in this meeting.

The Governments of the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Nigeria in June 24-th, 2009 signed an agreement for cooperation on peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Nigeria which contains in Article 2 nuclear power infrastructure as one of the area of bilateral cooperation. On June 4, 2012 the Governments of the Russian Federation and Federal Republic of Nigeria signed the agreement on cooperation in design development, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear power plants in Nigeria (IGA NPP). The agreement is of umbrella type and outlines the general principles and conditions of cooperation in construction of nuclear power plants in the territory of Nigeria. As a results of the meeting between the representatives of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission and State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” on the implementation of the Russian-Nigerian  intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for cooperation on  peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Nigeria held in Abuja, Nigeria, March 19-21, 2013, it was agreed on the priority steps for the implementation of the Russian-Nigerian IGAs in nuclear area and agreed on the necessity to focus in the next 2-3 years on the development of the nuclear infrastructure for governance and regulation of the National Nuclear Power Programme (NNPP). Following this, ROSATOM-CICET&T organized in 2014 two events – scientific visit for NNPP top managers in April 2014 (http://rosatomtech.com/?p=1132 ) and fellowship focusing the Russian computer codes for safety assessment  ( http://rosatomtech.com/?p=1414 ).
