On June 5, 2017 in the framework of International Conference «Capacity Building for Nuclear Industry: New Challenges in the Era of Globalization» the Section «From Nuclear Education to Training: Securing Sustainable Development of Human Resources in Nuclear Industry» was held at ROSATOM-CICE&T.
The main objective of the Section was to establish a platform for cooperation between universities and the industry from recipient countries and Russian Federation as a supplier country. The Section provided an opportunity for them to present their experience and discuss potential in developing the joint educational programmes to support national nuclear projects (NPP, research reactors, etc.).
Faculty members from the following overseas universities took part in the work of the Section: Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), Pretoria Technical College (South Africa), Ain Shams University (Egypt), Alexandria University (Egypt), Damanhour University (Egypt), Republican Institute of Higher Education (Belarus). The Russian Federation was represented by National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Ural Federal University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, St.Petersburg Polytechnic University, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, Sevastopol State University, Ivanovo State Power University. Also, there were reports from JSC «Afrikantov OKBM», ROSATOM-CICE&T and ROSATOM. The Section was chaired by the Director of educational projects of ROSATOM Mr. Valery Karezin.
ROSATOM-CICE&T presented its activities in the framework of ROSATOM project «International cooperation in nuclear education» which include establishing educational programmes in universities of partner countries jointly with ROSATOM supporting universities, training of academic staff from overseas universities in the «train-the-trainers» format, setting up of internet portals of Russian nuclear education, and development of textbooks on nuclear technologies to support joint educational programmes. In 2017, ROSATOM-CICE&T started the development of a textbook on VVER technology – participants of the Section were invited to analyze the content of the future textbook and make comments and recommendations according to requests of corresponding university and/or country. This feedback is important for harmonization of educational initiatives with partner countries.
Within the framework of the Conference, ROSATOM-CICE&T signed cooperation agreements with Pretoria Technical College (South Africa) and held meetings with Ain Shams University (Egypt), Alexandria University (Egypt) and Istanbul Technical University (Turkey), where the plans and formats of cooperation on the nuclear education export were agreed upon. Also the Conference provided an opportunity for representatives of the ROSATOM supporting universities to meet with colleagues from partner countries in a bilateral format and discuss their cooperation.
Events in the format of an international platform for cooperation between universities and the industry are proposed to be held annually on a regular basis. In 2018, within the framework of the International Forum ATOMEXPO-2018 (June 2018), the organizers plan to hold an international conference with the focus on cooperation with universities and knowledge transfer in the field of VVER technology.
