On October 16, 2017 the «Regional Training Course on Nuclear Security in Practice: Field Training for University Students» started at the Institute for Global Nuclear Safety and Security (GNSSI) of Rosatom Technical Academy (Rosatom Tech). The participants of this course are students and young specialists from overseas and Russian universities: International Sakharov Environmental Institute of Belarussian State University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Tomsk Polytechnic University and specialists from Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of Academy of Science of Republic of Tajikistan.
GNSSI has qualified trainers and unique technical equipment to train personnel in the field of nuclear security and physical protection. On the basis of GNSSI in cooperation with the IAEA a polygon with real engineering barriers and detection equipment was created. During the courses trainees have technical tours to nuclear sites to investigate the variety of the newest physical protection equipment and learn advanced methods and tools in the area of nuclear security.
The purpose of the «Regional Training Course on Nuclear Security in Practice: Field Training for University Students» is to provide participants who are specializing in nuclear security with an opportunity to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical training on the design and operation of physical protection systems. The participants of the course will have the unique opportunity to study physical protection from both sides: regulatory and technical. The course will cover such issues as international legal regulation of physical protection, nuclear forensics and includes practical training on a real nuclear site layout which enables to deal with physical protection systems of different action principles.
