Joint ROSATOM-IAEA School on Non-Power Nuclear Applications

The school will be held from 23 to 27 August 2021* in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The purpose of the NPNA School is to provide a comprehensive overview of current and future development of nuclear science and numerous applications of nuclear technologies, providing Member States with capacity building on selected topics, to address emerging needs in the non-power industry, broadening the knowledge of managers and leaders involved in the establishment of national and regional Centres of Nuclear Science and Technology.
A Centre of Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST) comprises a research reactor and several laboratories, including a radioisotope lab that produces radioisotopes for medical, industrial, and agricultural purposes, a radiobiology lab for agricultural research and experiments, a radiation material science complex to study and develop new materials, etc. A CNST project can also include a nuclear medicine centre to diagnose/treat cardiac, oncological, and neurological diseases, as well as a multipurpose irradiation centre where agricultural products, medical consumables can be treated with radiation, and properties of different materials can be modified.
This Joint ROSATOM-IAEA School on Non-Power Nuclear Applications is planned for 1 week and will be conducted through the combination of classroom lectures, exercises, group discussions, brief presentations by participants, and technical visits to Almazov National Medical Research Center, Krylov State Research Centre and State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Saint-Petersburg Clinical Scientific and Practical Center for Specialised Types of Medical Care (Oncological)”.
The School’s working language is English.
Participation and Registration
Applications will be accepted through the official IAEA channels. All applicants wishing to participate in the school have to be nominated by a National Liaison Officer of an IAEA Member State.
