ROSATOM-CICE&T started training course «Engineering aspects of nuclear fuel manufacturing» for ENEN.

From 23 November 2015 ROSATOM-CICE&T started training course “Engineering aspects of nuclear fuel manufacturing. From initial raw materials to fuel assemblies”.

This course is a part of a series of special training courses developed to support the partner countries in their capacity building to perform management and regulation of nuclear power programme. The course is provided in the framework of cooperation with European Nuclear Education Network Association (ENEN) as a part of ENEN-RU II project started in 2014.

European students and young specialists from Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Germany, Spain and Italy from organizations-members of ENEN Association came to Obninsk to achieve a good understanding of nuclear fuel properties and manufacturing techniques realized in Russian Federation.

The quality of nuclear fuel, modern technological requirements to its components, as well as compliance of the technological regulations are the key indicators that allow to achieve efficient and safe use of nuclear fuel. The Russian Federation has accumulated considerable experience in nuclear fuel manufacture for nuclear power plants with Russian design and in nuclear fuel manufacture under the contracts with foreign customers (AREVA NP, India, China, etc.).

The best practices of Russian nuclear fuel manufacture including at JSC “MSZ” are implemented in this training course. Participants will visit JSC “MSZ”, which is one of the major manufacturers and suppliers of nuclear fuel to the international market and is incorporated into the structure of the Fuel Company of Rosatom TVEL (TVEL is the fuel division of State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”), where they will observe technological order of nuclear fuel manufacture from UO2-powder to complete fuel assembly.

This is the second course of this kind. The first course for ENEN was organized in May 2012 (http://rosatomtech.com/?p=391).
