IAEA Conducted a Training Course on Nuclear Supply Chain Management and Procurement in Cooperation with ROSATOM and Rosatom Tech

On October 22, 2021, a three-day IAEA training course on Nuclear Supply Chain Management and Procurement was completed online. The event was initiated by the Quality Management Department of ROSATOM and organized by Rosatom Technical Academy.

The virtual modality of the training course made it possible to attract more than 50 participants from 15 countries. The Russian expert pool was represented by speakers from the Quality Management Department of ROSATOM, RAOS Project Oy, TVEL Fuel Company, ASE JSC, Rosenergoatom JSC, Rusatom Service JSC and AEM-Technologies JSC.

“It is well understood that supply chain management and procurement are important issues that affect not only the timing and cost of nuclear projects but also have a key impact on safety – the main priority in the nuclear field”, said in his welcoming speech Mr. Leonid Letchford, Head of Quality Management Department of ROSATOM. Mr Letchford also emphasized the indispensable role in the organization of the training course of Mr Pekka Tapani Pyy, Scientific secretary of the event, Senior Expert on Organization & Management Systems in the IAEA Nuclear Power Engineering Section.

During a series of webinars, participants discussed best practices related to procurement and supply chain management. The attendees were familiarized with the IAEA basic requirements, principles and approaches in the implementation of procurement and establishment of sustainable supply chains, as well as with the current international practices of ROSATOM subsidiary organizations, including digitalization. After completion of a final test, participants were able to receive IAEA certificates.

“We have been cooperating with the IAEA on these issues for a long time. Three years ago, in the framework of the international forum Atomexpo-2019, together with the IAEA representatives we held a round table on quality management in the nuclear supply chain. And we would like this cooperation to continue further. These are the areas where we have experiences to share. Today ROSATOM is actively developing, constructing a large number of facilities in different countries, and we have unique knowledge in the field of material and technical support of nuclear projects around the world” commented Mr. Roman Zimonas, Director for Procurement, Logistics and Quality Management of ROSATOM.
