The St. Petersburg branch of the Rosatom Tech hosted the IAEA National Course on "The Use of accounting and control of nuclear materials for the purposes of Nuclear Security at facilities", organized by the Agency jointly with the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute (GNSSI).
During the course specialists of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) and other national organizations studied approaches and methods that are recommended for use based on international practice in the field of accounting and control of nuclear materials. During the training, the instructors of the IAEA, the GNSSI and the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision highlighted the practical recommendations contained in the documents of the IAEA series of publications on nuclear security, talked about the basic concepts, key features and differences between the tasks of accounting and control of nuclear materials in the interests of safeguards and nuclear security and also shared practical experience in this area.
The course was conducted at the request of Bangladesh to the IAEA in support of the comprehensive plan for the development of Bangladesh's human resources in the field of nuclear security in connection with the implementation of the national nuclear energy program in close cooperation with the Russian Federation.
At the end of the course, the representatives of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission sincerely thanked all the instructors and the Rosatom Tech for the high quality of the course organized, and also expressed interest in conducting similar courses in the future. A logical continuation of this three-day theoretical course on accounting and control of nuclear materials can be a longer training under the auspices of the IAEA, with elements of practical demonstrations and visits to laboratories to consolidate the knowledge gained in practice.
