15th Meeting of the OECD/NEA Working Party on Decommissioning and Dismantling

15th Meeting of the OECD/NEA Working Party on Decommissioning and Dismantling

On 14-16 October 2014 the 15th meeting of the OECD/NEA Working Party on Decommissioning and Dismantling (WPDD) was held in Moscow, Russia. WPDD-15 meeting was hosted by Moscow Branch of the Rosatom Central Institute for Continuing Education and Training (ROSATOM-CICE&T).

Since Russia became a member country of the OECD/NEA in 2013 it has already become a practice to hold the OECD/NEA working party meetings in our country.

The opening address was delivered by Mr. E. Komarov (State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, Decommissioning Department) and Mr. J. L. Santiago (WPDD Chair, Spain).

More than 50 experts, including 27 WPDD members from foreign countries, and representatives of Russian enterprises (State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, JSC “VNIINM”, “Rosenergoatom” Concern JSC, JSC “TVEL”, FSUE “RosRAO”, NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, etc.) participated in the meeting.

Russian experts familiarized foreign colleagues with practices, activities and initiatives in the field of decommissioning in Russia that are carried out under umbrella of the Federal target programme “Nuclear and Radiation Safety in 2008 and for the period up to 2015” (to be extended for the period of 2016-2025) and Federal Law “On Management of Radioactive Waste” entered into force in 2011.

Ms. L. Andreeva-Andrievskaya (State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, Project Office for Cooperation with OECD/NEA) said that the main idea of having WPDD-15 meeting in Russia was to expand Russian participation in the international discussion and receive the first-hand information from the countries with well shaped decommissioning programmes like Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.  In this particular, the Rosatom-CICE&T is expected to play the role of integrator of the training activities in the field of decommissioning and to be ready to transfer best practices to the countries oriented for Russian nuclear power technologies.
