On June 15 the IAEA Regional Training Course #3 on remediation of uranium production legacy sites had been started in Obninsk.

This is the third training course under regional project RER 7006 “Environmental Remediation Project And Programme Management For Uranium Production Legacy”, which is hosted by ROSATOM CICE&T. 12 participants from relevant facilities and authorities of Tajikistan and  Kyrgyz Republic were selected by the IAEA Secretariat to attend the present training course.

The  objective of the 2-weeks course is to is to learn general elements of planning, implementation and management of environmental remediation projects focusing on uranium mining and processing legacy sites.

It is expected that trainees will familiarize with the principles  and radiological criteria for taking decisions on remediation of contaminated sites; mechanisms for identifying such sites and their characterization; strategies and technologies applied in the remediation processes.
