Rosatom Nuclear Education Day for students and professors of the largest South African Universities (the North-West University, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology) took place in the library in the Sandton district organized by Rosatom Africa (PTY) Ltd.
During the event, Dr. Yury SELEZNEV, Rector of ROSATOM-CICE&T, and Prof. Frikkie van NIEKERK, Executive Director for Research and Innovation at the North-West University, signed a memorandum on cooperation between two institutions in the field of professional training to support national nuclear power development.
Prof. Vladimir ARTISIUK, Vice-Rector of ROSATOM-CICE&T, gave a lecture on nuclear education in Russia and presented a popular science book Nuclear Energy. Together with the winner of the student essay competition held in 2015 Mr. Sandile KUMALO, a Bachelor in Nuclear Technology of the University of the Witwatersrand, Prof. Vladimir ARTISIUK announced the official start of the competition in 2016. Competition winners and their teachers will visit Russia and its nuclear facilities. In 2015 Prof. Vladimir ARTISIUK was the head of the jury which selected four winners of the competition (http://rosatomtech.com/?p=1668). The trip took place in October 2015; students and teachers visited the Kalinin NPP, JSC NIAEP’s office and learned about the system of education at NRNU MEPhI.
ROSATOM-CICE&T delegation also visited the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and the University of the Witwatersrand to share their experience in implementation of training programmes and giving the lectures on the specifics of nuclear power development in Russian Federation.
