Specialists of the Tianwan NPP Starts the Second Stage of Training in St. Petersburg

The Tianwan NPP theoretical training program includes three main stages: the three-month course at the site of the Rosatom Technical Academy in Obninsk has already been completed, and Chinese specialists will be trained at the St. Petersburg branch of the Academy by the end of autumn. The last stage will be practical training at the Leningrad NPP.

The second stage of the program focuses on the study of industrial and commercial legislation of the Russian Federation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The trainees will be trained in the analysis and planning of energy strategies, policies for ensuring safety of nuclear stations at all stages of the life cycle with the possibility of expanding nuclear power program based on Russian VVER technology.

The choice of St. Petersburg as one of the training sites is not accidental, because the main participants in the design and construction of nuclear power plants with VVER-1200 for the people’s Republic of China are concentrated in the North-Western region.

Yuan Xia expert Tianwan NPP:

“The study of issues of Russian legislation in the field of nuclear energy use, which we are introduced to by the teacher of the Technical Academy, will supplement our competence in the operation of the VVER-1200 unit, obtained in Obninsk. We will be able to compare the nuclear policy of Russia and China in order to improve cooperation between our countries in the field of nuclear energy.

Today, China-Russia relations have entered a “new era of comprehensive strategic partnership”. The Tianwan nuclear energy complex is known as the” China-Russia Nuclear Cooperation Model Project”. At the moment, there are four VVVER-1000 power units operating at the Tianwan NPP. In the near future, two VVER-1200 power units are planned to be put into operation. In order to improve the Tianwan nuclear energy complex, we need to conduct deeper and broader exchanges with Russia on the principle of openness and mutually beneficial cooperation.

We are glad that we had the opportunity to study in Obninsk, where the world’s first nuclear power plant was built. Saint Petersburg is the cultural capital of Russia. Here we can better understand the culture of the Russian people and improve our Russian language”
