On 17, July 2017 a two-week IAEA regional training course on Infrastructure Development and Safety Assessment of WWER/PWR with Advanced Safety Features was started at the ROSATOM-CICE&T. This is the third course in the series of the events organized in ROSATOM-CICE&T under the framework of the Technical Cooperation Project “Building Capacity for Infrastructure Development and Safety Assessment of Water Cooled Water Moderated Power Reactor Technology with Advanced Safety Features: the Case of WWER/PWR”. The previous courses were performed in November and May-June 2016.
This IAEA Project is aimed at building the necessary competencies in the area of safety assessment in the countries interested in WWER/PWR technologies. Trainees from 7 countries (Armenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Slovakia and Russian Federation) participate in this IAEA regional training course. The course was opened by lectures of the IAEA expert Dr. Anthony Ulses who made a comprehensive overview of IAEA Safety Standards on Design Safety and Safety Assessment.
The course is focused on the Russian computer codes used for safety assessment of nuclear installations and nuclear power plants (NPP) with WWER and PWR. The codes’ developers give an overview of current status and performance capabilities of the codes and conduct master classes and demonstrations of the codes application. The distinctive feature of this course is to significantly increase the share of practical exercises to better understand the safety related phenomena in the technological system of NPP. Among the trainers from Russian side are the leading experts from OKB “GIDROPRESS”, National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute”, RFNC-VNIIEF (Sarov), FSUE NITI (Sosnovy Bor), SSC RF – IPPE (Obninsk), SECNRS (Moscow) and ROSATOM-CICE&T.
