The workshop on REMIX Nuclear Fuel Cycle was held in the Moscow Agency of ROSATOM-CICE&T

The workshop on REMIX Nuclear Fuel Cycle was held in the Moscow Agency of ROSATOM-CICE&T from 13 to 16, June. This workshop was focused on the issues of the development of advanced nuclear fuel cycle based on the use of innovative nuclear fuel with unseparated uranium-plutonium fraction from recycled spent nuclear fuel of thermal reactors.

The main objective of the workshop was to build relationships between organizations involved in the implementation of the project, as well as to discuss the issues of full-scale involvement of REMIX-fuel in the nuclear fuel cycle of thermal neutron reactors. During the course the Head and Top Manager of the ROSATOM Project Office “Development of the SNF Management System” Mr. Konstantin Ivanov and Ms. Anzhelika Khaperskaia identified a number of key issues of REMIX fuel selection, its isotopic composition, transportation features and necessary technological solutions for the REMIX-fuel fabrication.

Representatives of the leading organizations involved in the REMIX-fuel development project provided up-to-date information on the project implementation. In addition, the representative of JSC Company TENEX (one of the world’s major suppliers of the NFC products) Mr. Mikhail Baryshnikov noticed the urgency of the REMIX-fuel cycle. The full-scale involvement of such type of fuel and, accordingly, the development of the market for services for reprocessing spent nuclear fuel of potential customers is aimed at strengthening the integrated offer of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation for partner countries.

There was formed a list of future necessary actions based on the results of the workshop. Furthermore, there was developed a roadmap for project implementation based on the results of the work groups.
