A series of specialized training courses for chief executive officers and specialists of BATAN was held from October 30 to December 1, 2017 within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Nuclear Energy Agency of Republic of Indonesia (BATAN) and Rosatom Technical Academy.
These training courses were focused on the development of the technology of Small and Medium Sized Reactors (SMRs) including high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR) in Russia, as well as on the points of research and development in the field of designing, manufacturing and quality assessment of nuclear fuel for HTGR.
Specialists from leading organizations of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and experts from Rosatom Technical Academy (Rosatom Tech) provided lectures on the development of SMRs technologies and associated fuel cycles.
Representatives from JSC “Afrikantov OKBM” presented the technology options of HTGR for production of high-temperature heat for use in various industries (chemistry, petrochemistry, petroleum refining, intensification of viscous oil production, steel industry etc.) and the peculiarities of the projects developed by JSC “Afrikantov OKBM”. While visiting the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”, Scientific Project Manager of Reactor Facilities with HTGR presented an overview of the distinctive features of HTGR technology development, as well as the peculiarities of the research base (the ASTRA Critical Facility) to justify conceptual solutions in the projects of reactor facilities with HTGR.
Besides attending lectures, the trainees from the Republic of Indonesia got acquainted with the construction of the Floating nuclear co-generation plant (FNCP) “Akademik Lomonosov” during the meeting at the Baltic Shipyard and visited the leading heavy engineering company, Izhorskiye Zavody OMZ Group, specializing in engineering, production, sales and service of nuclear power equipment. Moreover, the trainees learned about technological features of industrial manufacturing of nuclear fuel for the reactors of Russian and western design within the visit to PJSC Mashinostroitelny Zavod.
