ROSATOM-CICE&T specialist participated at 13th International seminar for young specialists “The nuclear potential of Republic of Kazakhstan” in Shymkent. The seminar was focused on: nuclear energy, nuclear physics, radio-ecology and geophysics; uranium mining industry; nuclear fuel production, legal, macro-economic, educational aspects of the nuclear industry and marketing and strategic development of the nuclear industry. The seminar was organized by the Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan and was held at the Auezov South Kazakhstan State University.
Specialists discussed the issues of the development of uranium mining industry. The Republic of Kazakhstan is the leader in uranium mining in the world, and the mining is performed by in-situ leaching technology, in which the deposit at a depth of almost 400 meters is filled with a special solution based on sulfuric acid. Clay does not pass fluid deeply and does not allow it to go up, which can lead to a harmful effect to the soil. The process of mining, processing and refining of ore now controls by innovative system. This method demonstrated in 2016 by The Atomic Company “KazAtomProm” was recognized by the IAEA as an environmentally safe and effective method of uranium mining.
In addition, participants highlighted the issues of nuclear and environmental safety, in particular the problem of radionuclide contamination of ground and surface waters of the Semipalatinsk Test Site (STS). After the closure of the Semipalatinsk Test Site, the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Russian Federation and the United States eliminated the site infrastructure. Now organizations of the industry work to ensure the safety nuclear test site, and the state nuclear activity is under full-scope IAEA safeguards.
Specialist from ROSATOM-CICE&T Mr. Alexeyev described the activities of the Institute, focused at developing training programmes in the universities of newcomer-countries in cooperation with Russian universities, including double degree programs. To support this activity ROSATOM-CICE&T develops and implements basic interactive training packages on Russian and English languages, and applied bachelor degree program, which will reduce the time of preparation of operational NPP personnel.
