The Rosatom Technical Academy has completed a four-week series of specialized training courses on nuclear security for specialists from AKKUYU NÜKLEER ANONİM ŞİRKETİ.
The participants gained knowledge in the physical protection of nuclear facilities, analytical work and self-inspection within the physical protection system, the organization of pass office operations, and information security.
"During the stages of construction, installation, commissioning, and startup of important technological equipment at nuclear power plants, the training of highly qualified personnel capable of ensuring the security of a nuclear facility remains a priority task. As a training center for the nuclear industry workforce, the Rosatom Technical Academy offers modern and effective training programs that meet the highest international standards," noted Vitaly Kirillov, Director of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute at the Rosatom Technical Academy.
These courses enabled the participants to enhance the skills necessary for professional activities in the field of nuclear security at the "Akkuyu" NPP. Experienced instructors introduced the participants to the international legislative foundation in this area, including IAEA recommendations and guidance. The interrelation between the regulatory framework and the technical implementation of information security measures was examined in detail. Skills were acquired in conducting self-inspection, including threat assessment, performance testing of elements of the engineering and technical physical protection means, and identifying vulnerabilities. The participants showed keen interest in the practical training sessions.

The courses for the physical protection personnel of the "Akkuyu" NPP have been adapted to the conditions of the plant's future operation in Türkiye. Personal training is conducted in stages as part of a comprehensive plan for preparing nuclear physical security specialists for the NPP.
Since the beginning of 2022, over 550 specialists and employees of the physical protection units of the "Akkuyu" NPP have undergone training in various areas. This demonstrates the high level of attention given to physical nuclear security issues and the continuous improvement of the staff's professional competencies.
The training programs, developed by the Institute of the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute of the Rosatom Technical Academy, are based on IAEA international recommendations and also consider the experience of constructing and operating modern nuclear power plants. Upon completion of each course, participants undergo testing and receive official certificates.
