Experts from the Global Nuclear Safety and Security Institute (GNSSI) of Rosatom Technical Academy conducted two training courses on physical protection at the site of the NPP under construction in the Republic of Turkey.

Two groups of trainees, specialists of the Akkuyu NPP who are responsible for nuclear security, learnt about general issues of physical protection, as well as the procedure of analytical work and internal control in the physical protection system of nuclear facilities.

During the training, the foreign specialists got acquainted with the international regulatory and legal framework in the field of nuclear security, the basic principles of construction and the procedure for designing technical means of physical protection, and the procedure for analysing threats in the field of nuclear security.

For reference:

1300 specialists of the Republic of Turkey are to be trained for the first and second power units of the Akkuyu NPP. Part of the operating personnel of the future plant in Turkey is provided by Rosenergoatom Concern. These are specialists from Russian nuclear power plants who have been transferred to AKKUYU NÜKLEER JSC. To obtain a license from the Turkish supervisory authority, they are also trained at Rosatom Technical Academy.

In total, over 150 Akkuyu NPP specialists have been trained since the beginning of 2024. The courses were the next stage of a comprehensive training plan for the nuclear security personnel, scheduled to last until 2027.

The Akkuyu NPP is the first nuclear power plant constructed in the Republic of Turkey. The Akkuyu NPP project consists of four power units with Russian-designed Generation 3+ VVER reactors, 1200 MW each. The construction of the Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry implemented under the Build-Own-Operate model.

Russia maintains a constructive dialogue with its foreign colleagues, developing mutually beneficial cooperation. Major foreign energy projects continue to be implemented. The State Corporation Rosatom and its enterprises take an active part in this work.
