First Russia-IAEA Nuclear Knowledge Management School was held at the St. Petersburg branch of Rosatom Technical Academy within the framework of the Russian Federation extrabudgetary contribution to IAEA for the implementation of the IAEA technical cooperation projects on the development of nuclear infrastructure of newcomer countries. The training was attended by 23 specialists from Armenia, Cambodia, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Lao, Mongolia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia and Russia.
Nuclear Knowledge Management School is a one-week event dedicated to the development and implementation of nuclear knowledge management programmes in nuclear science and technology organizations.
Within the framework of the School, IAEA experts covered various aspects of nuclear knowledge management, including processes and tools, challenges and benefits, the effect of organizational culture, the relationship with human resource development, and the use of information technology for knowledge preservation and transfer. The JSC ASE expert Artem Dogov shared Russian experience and best practices in the field of preservation and transfer of nuclear knowledge.
The training also included the practical part. On a daily basis, participants under the supervision of the IAEA experts worked in groups on a project aimed at developing skills for application of methods and tools in the field of nuclear knowledge management.

Recognizing the importance of nuclear knowledge management, the IAEA develops methodologies and guidance documents for planning, designing and implementing nuclear knowledge management programmes and facilitates nuclear education, providing support, networking opportunities and experience exchange. Nuclear Knowledge Management School is held annually at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy.
