In early September, representatives of Rosatom and the Ankara Chamber of Industry met online to discuss issues of further cooperation. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Chamber of Industry Board Nurettin Ozdebir, Secretary General of the organizationYavuz Jabbar, Technical Coordinator of the Nuclear Energy ProjectJayda Mine Polat, Advisor to the General Director of Rosatom State CorporationVladimir Artisyuk, Rector of the Rosatom Technical AcademyYuri Seleznev, Vice-Rector-Director of the Department of International Cooperation and International Business Development Pavel Zhuravlev.
During the meeting, the Turkish specialists got acquainted with the activities of the Rosatom State Corporation in the field of small-scale nuclear power development and key projects for the construction of small-power nuclear power plants in Russia, as well as with the progress of preparations in the Technical Academy of personnel of the Akkuyu NPP, which is being built in Turkey according to a Russian project.
Recall that the Technical Academy has been cooperating with the Ankara Chamber of Industry since 2010. In 2017, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the organizations. To expand cooperation, the Turkish partners were also presented with new educational products of Rosatom: short-term courses in the “Train-The-Trainers” format for teaching staff and graduate students of foreign universities, the inclusion of educational modules in training programs in the field of power and non-power applications of nuclear technologies, the provision of textbooks on technological aspects of the construction and operation of nuclear power plants of Russian design, training events commissioned by the Turkish side.
Representatives of the Ankara Chamber of Industry introduced the participants of the meeting to the NUKSAK nuclear industry clustering project, thanked the Technical Academy for effective cooperation and expressed interest in cooperation on the topic of IV generation reactors, including small-power modular nuclear power plants and liquid-salt reactors.
“The Technical Academy already has experience in conducting introductory courses in the field of small-power nuclear reactors. We have been organizing such courses since 2011 in our branch in St. Petersburg. At that time, the Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP was being built in the northern capital, and, in addition to theory, we could conduct technical tours. The first crew of a floating nuclear power plant was also trained at the St. Petersburg branch. Therefore, the interest of Turkish colleagues in introductory courses on the topic of small-power reactors is a task that the specialists of the Technical Academy can solve,” – Yuri Seleznev explained.
Summing up the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange specific proposals regarding the development of cooperation and preparation for the signing of a new memorandum in March 2022.

A memorandum of cooperation in the field of personnel training for the construction of nuclear power facilities was signed between the Rosatom Technical Academy, “Training Center for Professional Training of the Construction complex of the nuclear Industry” and the Ankara Chamber of Industry on March 8, 2017 within the framework of the IV International NPP Summit. The signing of the document was preceded by visits to Russia by representatives of The Ankara Chamber of Industry in November 2016 and representatives of the Turkish Nuclear Industry Association in February 2017.
The NUKSAK Nuclear Industry Clustering Project, which run in coordination with stakeholders such as Chambers of Industry of Istanbul, Kocaeli and Adana, Istanbul Technical University, Gedik University, began its activities on May 2, 2017. Within the framework of the project, activities are carried out under the mangement of the economic enterprise “NUKSAK”, established by the Ankara Chamber of Industry. The scope of the project includes comprehensive analyses, quality management and certification systems in the nuclear industry, consultations, trainings on welding technologies for the nuclear industry, research and development work on stainless steel and infrastructure work for the organization of technical support.
