Certificates of Completion of the Russian Language Course were granted to another 17 specialists of the El-Dabaa NPP. The course was organized by Rosatom Technical Academy, as part of the contract for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Egypt. Presentation of the Certificates was held at the St. Petersburg Branch of Rosatom Technical Academy where the personnel of the future NPP are trained.
For six months, the lecturers of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and Rosatom Technical Academy taught the nuclear specialists from Egypt. The trainees were trained in General Russian language of A1, A2, B1 levels, and studied the language of their future specialty by using the textbook “Russian Language as a Foreign Language for Specialists in Nuclear Power Engineering” developed by the university lecturers. The course programme includes not only lectures but also practical exercises. By the end of the training, the Egyptian specialists successfully passed two exams, an oral and a written one.
“Besides training, the lecturers encourage the trainees to use Russian in everyday life. Having passed the language practice, foreign trainees successfully adapt to the new socio-cultural conditions and get familiarized with the peculiarities of the Russian national character,” explained Yulia Samoilova, Head of the Language Support Division of the St. Petersburg Branch of Rosatom Technical Academy.
It is worth reminding that the first specialists of the El-Dabaa NPP passed the final exams in the Russian language and began the technical part of the training in 2022. To date, 77 Egyptian trainees received Certificates of Completion of the Russian Language Course.
For reference:
El-Dabaa nuclear power plant is the first nuclear power plant in Egypt. The plant will have four 1200 MW power units with VVER-1200 Generation 3+ reactors. The Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation designs and constructs the plant. In January 2024, the “first concrete” was poured into the foundation plate of Power Unit 4, thus all four units of the future nuclear power plant are under construction now. The El-Dabaa NPP is the largest nuclear construction project on the African continent.
As part of the project, about 1,700 specialists from the El-Dabaa NPP will be trained at Rosatom Technical Academy. The required training and methodological base and technical training aids will allow the Egyptian trainees to successfully master both the theoretical knowledge of the main special disciplines and the skills necessary to ensure safe operation of the plant systems and equipment.
The Russian Federation is actively developing cooperation with friendly counties. Major joint energy projects are being implemented. Rosatom and its divisions take an active part in this work.
