The second part of the Joint ROSATOM-IAEA School on Non-Power Nuclear Applications has been completed

From 09 to 11 November 2021, Rosatom Technical Academy together with the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” (ROSATOM) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held the second virtual part of the Joint Rosatom-IAEA School on Non-Power Nuclear Applications.

Mr. Joao Osso, Section Head at the Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences of the IAEA’s Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, Dr. Vladimir Artisyuk, Councilor, Adviser to Director General of ROSATOM and Ms Alesia Iunikova, Director of the Centre for International Cooperation welcomed the participants and opened the event.

The second virtual part of the School was attended by 20 participants from 11 countries – young specialists, managers and researchers in the field of radiation technologies. The School programme covered the theoretical part, a virtual technical tour and the group project work led by the mentors.

The lecturers’ pool of the second part of the School was represented by the experts from the IAEA, Rusatom Overseas JSC, ASE JSC, Energy of the Future, and Tomsk Polytechnic University. Tomsk Polytechnic University provided the virtual technical tour to the university research reactor – IRT-T. Together with mentors, the participants worked in groups on one of three projects: ” Setting up a new radiation facility: source-based or accelerator-based?”, “Changing the perception of nuclear”, “Radiation technology startup”. In the final part of the School, the working groups’ leaders presented their projects.

Following the successful implementation of the pilot virtual event, it is planned to hold the face-to-face School in 2022.

Rosatom Technical Academy has extensive experience in conducting joint international E&T projects. One of the highlights of 2019 was the World Nuclear University School on Radiation Technologies (WNU RT School) conducted in Obninsk together with the IAEA and WNU.

The successful implementation of the WNU RT School made it possible to expand cooperation with the IAEA. Thus, in 2020 Rosatom Technical Academy became the first IAEA Collaborating Centre in three programmatic areas: nuclear sciences and applications, nuclear energy and nuclear security. The Joint Rosatom-IAEA School on Non-Power Nuclear Applications is one of the first projects of the IAEA Collaborating Centre in the field of nuclear sciences and applications.

From 28 to 30 September 2021, the first part of the Joint Rosatom-IAEA School on Non-Power Nuclear Applications was conducted online.
