Within the framework of the international forum World Atomic Week, two joint schools organized by the Russian Federation and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) commenced their programs: the annual School on Advanced Nuclear Energy Management and the first-ever in Russia School on Nuclear Stakeholder Engagement.
Both events are taking place at the Moscow branch of Rosatom Technical Academy, which is hosting the programs in partnership with the IAEA.
The goal of the schools is to give participants a deeper understanding of the importance of management in the nuclear energy sector and of stakeholder engagement as an essential element in the sustainable development of nuclear programs.
Participants of the School will not only gain theoretical knowledge of the tools and approaches for developing all 19 elements of nuclear infrastructure, with special emphasis on implementing stakeholder engagement programs, but will also practice applying these tools in interactive sessions — learning to design strategies and action plans at various stages of the nuclear facility lifecycle.
«As an IAEA Collaborating Centre, it is a great honor for Rosatom Technical Academy to host these programs», - said Yury Seleznev, Rector of Rosatom Technical Academy. «We are confident that sharing knowledge, experience, and best practices in management and communication is the key to the sustainable development of global nuclear energy».
«The IAEA places great emphasis on stakeholder engagement», - noted Mikhail Chudakov, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy. «There are numerous examples where nuclear development in certain countries has been slowed due to misunderstanding of the role and importance of nuclear energy. We study and share the best practices of countries that have built direct and open dialogue with the public and parliaments. Russia, Finland, and Hungary are among the leading examples where public communication is organized at the highest level. Through its schools, the IAEA disseminates the experience of these and other countries that have successfully established stakeholder engagement».
«Together with our partners, we are building a global system of nuclear education that ensures workforce sustainability and continuous industry development», - emphasized Tatyana Terentyeva, Rosatom Deputy Director General for Human Resources. «Rosatom has always adhered to the principle of fostering long-term, trust-based partnerships and sharing technologies and knowledge. Our training programs for international personnel are based on IAEA methodologies and standards, while incorporating the rich experience of Russia’s leading universities specializing in nuclear education. Rosatom Technical Academy prepares staff for both Russian and international nuclear power plants and, for six years, has been a unique IAEA Collaborating Centre».
For reference:
Rosatom Technical Academy is a modern international multi-disciplinary center for training personnel in the nuclear industry. Since 2019, it has held the status of an IAEA Collaborating Centre. In October 2024, the Academy renewed its agreement, becoming the first and only centre to cooperate with the IAEA in five programmatic areas, including the promising field of small modular reactor (SMR) technologies.
Over the years of collaboration, the Academy has hosted more than 80 international events, attended by over 1,800 participants from various countries.
Russia continues to expand cooperation with all interested nations and to implement major international projects. Rosatom and its divisions actively contribute to this global effort.
