The main activities of the center will be nuclear research and development, nuclear medicine and pharmaceuticals, information and communication technologies.
Rosatom State Corporation will have allocated 18 billion rubles by 2026 for the establishment and development of an innovative research and technology center “Park of nuclear and medical technologies” in Obninsk, Kaluga region, the press service of the regional government reported following a working meeting on Thursday between the acting head of the region Vladislav Shapsha and CEO of the state Corporation Alexey Likhachev.
Obninsk has includes all stages of education presented – from school to advanced training and retraining: atomic classes at school, technical school, IATE NRNU MEPhI, and Rosatom Technical Academy. These are five educational institutes cover a range of issues: nuclear physics and technology, biotechnology, intelligent cybernetic systems, laser and plasma technologies, social and economic sciences, training and capacity building. 2500 students study here, including 400 foreign students. This year two-year job-specific training programme at Rosatom Tech for the new-generation instructors has been completed by 16 trainees ready to training personnel in support of Rosatom builds abroad.
During the meeting, the prospects for cooperation in attracting scientific leaders to manage several areas of study at the university, ways of forming a career path for the most talented students, and creating comfortable conditions for them were considered.
“The main activities of the innovative scientific and technological center “Park of nuclear and medical technologies” created in Obninsk will be nuclear research and development, nuclear medicine and pharmaceuticals, information, and communication technologies. Rosatom is the anchor investor of the center.
Among the projects are the construction of a plant for the production of radiopharmaceuticals for medical purposes, the creation of a center for nuclear science and technology, the construction of a multifunctional center for processing sterilization of medical devices, modification of materials, and ionizing treatment of agricultural and food products.
Rosatom also plans to make Obninsk a platform for developing infrastructure solutions for the state Corporation’s urban development.
