On October 16, 2017, within the framework of the Practical Arrangements with the IAEA and the implementation of the IAEA technical cooperation programme, the scientific visit of specialists from the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, the Republic of Macedonia, has started in Rosatom Technical Academy. This scientific visit is performed at the request of the Macedonian side, and is focused on the Russian experience in the development of small and medium-sized reactors (SMR), including legislative and regulatory framework for their deploy.
Within the scientific visit the series of presentations from the leading organizations involved in SMRs projects were arranged: JSC “Afrikantov OKBM”, JSC “NIKIET”, NRC “Kurchatov Institute” and a technical tour to Baltic Shipyard Ltd to familiarize with the construction of the floating nuclear power plant “Akademik Lomonosov”. Scheduled presentations and technical tours will help to form an idea of the integrated proposal of State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, about product solutions and services in the segment of nuclear power plants with SMR based on light water technologies and technologies based on the use of gas coolants (JSC “Afrikantov OKBM”).
In order to provide information on the development and establishment of the regulatory framework for the reactor facility with SMR as one of the most important issue on October 16, 2017 Mr. M. Alekhin (Deputy Head of the Department of Assessments, Licensing and Inspection of Nuclear Power Plants of Ships) described the stages of development of the required regulations in detail for the reactor facility with SMR.
To get acquainted with the technologies for creating and developing simulators of SMR reactors, a visit to the Scientific-Research and Methodology Center “Simulation Systems” (the developer of a simulator for SVBR-100 basic principles) was performed. The visit is planned to full-scope simulator for training of operating personnel for Floating NPP “Akademik Lomonosov” that is under construction now in St Petersburg.
