The Virtual Part of the IAEA Interregional Training Course on Human Resource Management for New or Expanding Nuclear Power Programmes has completed

From 18 to 20 May 2021, a virtual part of the Interregional Training Course on Human Resource Management for New or Expanding Nuclear Power Programmes was held. The training course opened a series of hybrid events organized together with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” (ROSATOM) and Rosatom Technical Academy within the extrabudgetary contribution of the Russian Federation to the implementation of the IAEA Technical Cooperation projects for the development of nuclear infrastructure of newcomer countries.

In 2021, the IAEA takes a two-step hybrid approach to the implementation of training courses, which involves dividing the curriculum into virtual and face-to-face parts. The purpose of this first virtual part of the training course was to introduce and provide an overview of human resource management for new nuclear power.

The programme of the training course combined online lectures by international and Russian experts, Q&A sessions and interactive discussions. Mr. Jing Zhang, Section Head at the Division for Europe of the Department of Technical Cooperation, welcomed the participants and opened the event. Ms. Maria Oseeva, Head of Nuclear Infrastructure Project Office at Rusatom Overseas JSC, made a welcoming speech from the Russian side. Russian experts presented the experience of ROSATOM and the regulatory body in the field of human resource management following the IAEA Milestones Approach to the development of nuclear infrastructure, as well as case studies of newcomer countries.

The training course was attended by more than 20 participants from 14 countries (Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Hungary, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Morocco, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, Philippines, Sri Lanka). The active discussions allowed participants to interact with experts and colleagues from other countries and exchange best practices.

It is planned that the second part of the training course programme will take place in a face-to-face format at the Moscow branch of Rosatom Technical Academy. The face-to-face event will include an extensive practical part using OCTOPUS software for human resource management, supplementing the theoretical component provided in the virtual part of the course.

For reference:

Interregional Training Courses on Human Resource Management have been organized by Rosatom Technical Academy together with the IAEA since 2017 as part of the extrabudgetary contribution of the Russian Federation to the implementation of projects of the IAEA Technical Cooperation Programme.
