On September 13-14 2021, Rosatom Technical Academy and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) jointly held the virtual part of the Interregional Training Course on Leadership and Management for Safety. The training course was conducted within the extra-budgetary contribution of the Russian Federation to the IAEA Technical Cooperation projects for the development of national nuclear infrastructure in newcomer countries.
The purpose of this training course was to train participants from the Member States embarking on nuclear power in developing capabilities in establishing, assessing, sustaining leadership, management, and culture for safety. The virtual part of the training course was attended by 27 representatives from 13 countries.
The training course programme included lectures by international and Russian experts on management, leadership, safety culture and effective approaches in these areas. IAEA representatives Mr. Jing Zhang, Section Head at the Division for Europe of the Department of Technical Cooperation, Ms. Iva Kubanova, Senior Nuclear Safety Officer at the Operational Safety Section and Mr. Pekka Pyy, Senior Expert on Organization & Management Systems at the IAEA Nuclear Power Engineering Section opened the event. From the Russian side, Ms. Alesia Iunikova, Director of the Rosatom Technical Academy’s Center for International Cooperation, welcomed the participants. Mr Eduard Volkov, an invited expert in the field of safety culture, director of the Obninsk Scientific and Research Centre “Prognoz”, presented the ROSATOM’s approach to leadership, management and safety culture in international projects.
According to the IAEA two-step hybrid approach to the implementation of training courses, it is planned that the second part of the course will take place in a face-to-face format at the Moscow branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy. The face-to-face part will include practical work in groups to support the theoretical topics of the virtual part.
This is a pilot implementation of the IAEA Interregional Training Course on Leadership and Management for Safety by Rosatom Technical Academy as part of the extra-budgetary contribution of the Russian Federation to the IAEA Technical Cooperation projects for the development of national nuclear infrastructure in newcomer countries.
